VANCOUVER - ID Biomedical Corporation said Tuesday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is allowing it to seek accelerated approval of its influenza vaccine. It said it may receive FDA approval in time to sell vaccine in the United States for the 2006-07 winter flu season.
ID Biomedical intends to complete a U.S. safety trial and submit a licence application later this year; this would be followed by an FDA inspection of its manufacturing facilities. Additional studies would be required to confirm the overall effectiveness of its Fluviral product, and the vaccine's effect in the elderly.
